"Super stiff" Mach4 features in MBR

This past month Paul Burwell took a spin on our Mach4C. Described as "fantastic build quality" and weighing "practically nothing". You can read the full review below: "in terms of build quality, there aren't many bikes that are better made than the Mach4"

George Budd wins 2nd round of Gorrick Winter Series

The second round of the Brass Monkey winter XC series was a surprisingly dry affair. This gave George a chance to properly test out his LES in "summer" conditions.

The Boompods rode a great race with Rich Penning grabbing third as George soared to the top of the podium, claiming first place in the 4hr category. We can't wait until the next round for some more Pivot Domination!

Mach6 makes bike of the day on VitalMTB

Pivot today claimed the venerable title of Vital Bike of the Day with this trio of beautiful Mach6 Carbons. Built up in various ways they epitomise lush.

Personally though we think these bikes could well be up for Bike of the Year, let alone Bike of the Day.

Boompod win at Battle Royale

In a disused market in Circus Street, Brighton, an epic race took place with teams of three riders taking to a deserted warehouse to race, speedway style until one group survived victorious.

The Pivot BoomPod team was made up of Euan and Ross Adams and Paul Flynn who triumphed aboard their Pivot LES hardtails. It was a tough battle as many good teams took part but Pivot ultimately took the win; albeit sacrificing some skin in the process.

Here at Pivot UK we can't wait until next year to do battle again!

George Budd seals first win aboard Pivot

With lashing rain and deep, claggy mud the stage was set at the first round of the Gorrick Brass Monkeys winter series for an epic battle through atrocious conditions. Our athletes Rich Pennin, Paul Flynn and George Budd were all racing the 4 hour class, all aboard the Pivot LES hardtail.
George started the race with a few teething troubles: a few small bike and clothing adjustments were called for after 2 laps. He pulled in, working quickly to remedy the issues and set out with one goal in mind: catch fellow Pivot rider Rich. With an hour to go George caught Rich and managed to fend him off for the remainder of the race clinching the win. Rich and Paul rounded off the podium to bring in a Pivot 1, 2, 3.

So what did George think of his virgin race experience on the LES27.5?

"It's a remarkable blend of stiff and comfortable"

"The other big thing I noticed was its refusal to slip sideways on a flat corner"

"It feels like you really sit 'in' in the bike"

"In short, the geometry really is absolutely nailed"

Safe to say George is loving the bike and it's going to be a good season!

Urban Downhill: Taxco, Mexico

With the World Cup DH season over and the World Champs having been played out in Hafjell, the racers turned towards the off season and alternative events that offered a different way to keep their eye in to racing.

The most iconic of this is the Taxco Urban Downhill. Situated deep in the midst of Mexico the weather is perfect in mid October to catch some sun before a winter of hard training. Our athlete Bernard Kerr travelled out to this unique event to compete with the best in the world.

His race started less than ideally as a nasty crash on the stepdown in his first practice run meant he barely knew the course prior to his final race run. Despite this Bernard threw down an unbelievable run flying into 5th place and squeezing onto the podium. Speaking to Bernard after the event he said "I was hurting but still knew I could put down a good run if I went hard". He more than proved this to us as not only did he pick up one of the fastest times of the day, he also did it with style, throwing down one of his trademark whips!

It was an incredible event: we can't wait for next years, and neither can Bernard.

Mach4C review: WMB and the "Next Generation"

It's been an excellent month for our Mach4C trail bike. Our 2 demo bikes have been doing rounds of the country visiting a combination of athletes, dealers and magazines. The upshot of all the travel is that several reviews will be making their way into the media over the next couple of months, the first of which being WhatMountainBike's "Next Generation" review.

First ridden at Interbike in Vegas the Mach4C left a lasting impression upon it's reviewers. The combination of light weight and future proofing in the form of Di2 compatibility instantly drew people to the Mach4C. The progressive geometry of class leading standover and short chainstays for helping you "scythe through turns" just further the enjoyment factor when riding the Mach4C.

You can read the full review below or alternatively pick up the November copy of WhatMountainBike.

The WEMBO World Champs

Matt Page getting ready for the overtake - Photo Credit Anthony Pease
Last weekend in the dark, cold Scottish mountains, 170 elite endurance athletes from 23 different countries were preparing themselves for the race of the year. The event in question was the World Endurance Mountain Bike Organisation's 24 hour championship.

LES: Primed and ready for action - Photo Credit Anthony Pease
Held at the infamous Fort William course the terrain the athletes were riding was both physically and technically relentless. As a result our key sponsored athlete Matt Page chose the versatile Mach4C as his weapon of choice. The combination of plush but efficient suspension travel and high end carbon fibre construction, coupled with the maneuverable 650B wheels made the Mach4C a formidable back up to Matts skills.

There were trains aplenty at WEMBO - Photo Credit Anthony Pease
It wasn't only Matt Page however who was racing under the Pivot banner. Matt Carr (Pivot BoomPods Racing, 18 laps) raced successful to 8th place on his rigid LES in the singlespeed category, and Mark Deacon (Loco Racing, 21 laps) podiumed 3rd in the same race. Gary Tompsett (Pivot-Pilots, 19 laps) also powered to 4th place in the 40-50 year old category on the Mach429C. The team pits were manned by none other than Upgrades very own Marketing Manager, Rory Hitchens, as he acted as support for any team rider in need of assistance.

Despite a courageous race through relentless conditions Matt Page narrowly missed out on a top ten finish, grabbing 11th in Elite. This was not for the want of trying and an incredible result considering his lack of training due to commitments to other events and races throughout the summer.

Overall the WEMBO 24hr championships were greatly successful for all Pivot athletes. Despite not climbing atop that elusive top step all our athletes achieved great finishes. We want to thank the WEMBO organisers for an excellent event and we cannot wait to revisit the race next year.

Rounding off 2014

Our last post was very geared towards leading our fans and customers into what is new with Pivot for the 2015 model year, and what new things our athletes have been doing. This time however, we want to look back to the past year, and celebrate the successes of both the athletes we support and the brand we distribute and promote.
A successful time at Rampage - Photo Credit: Bernard Kerr

2014 has been a key year for us in many ways. The launch of the Mach6C gave us a springboard into mainstream cycling and it won many accolades, most particularly the MTBR award for the "Most Versatile Bike" and the Interbike award for the "Peoples Upgrade Choice - mountain". prizes such as this rocketed the Mach6C into the mainstream and set the stage for it to become one of the most popular, high-end, enduro race bikes. We also want to thank Katy Winton for her incredible race results and the level to which she went as one of our athletes. Consistently finishing in the top 10 in the EWS she took the series by storm aboard her Mach6C throwing both her and her bike into the limelight.

It wasn't only in enduro racing however that Pivot athletes and bikes shone. Bernard Kerr, Micayla Gatto and Eliot Jackson headed up the Pivot Factory Downhill Team. Throughout the season they achieved consistent success at the highest level of sport as Bernard took the additional challenge of managing the team as well as racing for it. The method paid off hugely as all three team members reported hugely successful results. They were debuting on the Pivot Phoenix Carbon and flew down the tracks. Bernard, along with Jeff Herbertson, rode Rampage on the Phoenix downhill bike. Both riders did incredibly well with Bernard being narrowly knocked out before qualifying despite a stunning and death-defying run. Jeff on the other had rode unbelievably well and manged to place 7th in the main event. Jeff's full run can be watched here from his GoPro, catching the action first hand.
A successful 2014 season - Photo Credit: Micayla Gatto
On the whole it's been a hugely successful season for the athletes that Pivot support and the bikes we make. As we look forward to 2015 we want to build on this success and use that to improve the consumer and dealer experience for you, the customer.

Pivot Publicity

It's been a big week for us here at Pivot UK. The combination of the Cycle Show and the Parkour Ride in London has meant Pivot has gained national publicity.

Our very own Dave Hemming lost large amounts of skin in a spectacular off that was pictured in an article by the Guardian (read it here). It covers the entirety of the Parkour Ride that occurred over the weekend but the highlight has to be the Pivot shots.

Being Interviewed - Photo credit: John Owen
Not only this but following on from the BBC interview that was taken at the Cycle Show, Pivot UK had a large slot on the 5Live cycling chat show "Bespoke". The interview takes the listener through the main points and features of our brand new bike; the Phoenix Carbon. The full show is available here on Radio iPlayer.

We hope we can build upon this publicity to further our brand and help to build our relationship with you the customer.

Moving into 2015 with Pivot Cycles

In the last few months Pivot has moved forwards both in the UK and across the globe. A combination of new bike models and success for Pivot athletes has brought the brand into the mainstream.

Last weekend one of the biggest events in mountain biking happened. We had two athletes at the Red Bull Rampage: Bernard Kerr and Jeff Herbertson. Both athletes blew us away with the results they got and how well they rode. Bernard narrowly missed out on qualifying, despite putting in a breathtaking run and placing 12th in qualifying. Jeff threw together something incredible, and took 7th place in the overall standings. Both riders were aboard our Phoenix DH bike and it took the abuse manfully.

Elsewhere, our team spent the weekend at the Cycle Show. We had four bikes on display; a Mach4C, Mach6C, Vault CX and Phoenix Carbon. All the bikes generated huge amounts of attention and were featured across various forms of media. The highlight was the Phoenix Carbon which apart from being the most photographed bike of the day, featured in a BBC Interview (listen in live on BBC Radio 5Live on the 2nd October at 9pm).

It's not just our pro factory riders that are becoming more and more successful however. Matt Page sailed to victory in the Cycle Show CX racing in a tough industry class. Our very own Ian Manning snapped a great picture of him crossing the line victorious and well ahead of the remainder of the pack.
Matt crossing the line at the Cycle Show CX

Matt is also experimenting with different wheel sizes and has decided on the Mach4C as his weapon of choice for the WEMBO (World Endurance Mountain Bike Organisation). This is the World Solo 24hr Championships. It's based at Fort William (Scotland) and involves 24 hours of relentless racing on brutal terrain. The combination of 115mm travel and 650b wheels gives the ultimate balance of maneuverability, efficiency and capability. This will give Matt the tools he need to perform at the highest level.
Matt Page's super light Mach4C

Roslynn Newman has also been making waves with her win at the Tour de Ben Nevis. Again, endurance is the name of the game to last the full 72km across harsh and remote Scottish terrain. The first time Roslynn attempted this epic event she completed it in 7 hours and 6 minutes after hitting the wall near the end. She had been riding a Specialized Myka hardtail but this time she was equipped with a Mach6C and ready. Despite extreme hardship and tiredness she finished the course at blistering speed. Her finishing time was almost 2 hours faster than the first attempt and swept away the competition in 5 hours, 11 minutes. This time was so quick that it gained her first place in the Women's category, a staggering feat. Find the full results here.
Roslynn at the Tour de Ben Nevis
As well as the Tour de Ben Nevis Roslynn spent some time racing the Ladies Red Bull Fox Hunt with Rachel Atherton. It looks an amazing event and we have full footage of the event from Roslynn aboard her Mach6C here.

To compound on the success of our athletes and the publicity of the brand Pivot have launched 2 brand new bikes. The Mach4C is a 650b XC/short travel trail bike with 115mm of travel. It is the lightest full suspension bike in production weighing in at 10kg for complete bikes despite being full stealth dropper and Di2 compatible. The other major launch from Pivot is the Phoenix Carbon downhill bike. It has 203mm of travel, 650b wheels and is constructed fully from carbon. All of these features and more mean this bike is the lightest and most technologically advanced downhill bike on the market today.

As we head towards 2015 we cannot wait to further the Pivot brand even more and we look to our customer base to do that. We hope you are as excited about the new developments from Pivot as we are and we look forward to building our customer base and our level of customer service. Love what you ride.

Pinkbike's Review of the Mach 6

" Pivot's Mach 6 Carbon is one of the most enjoyable bikes we've had the opportunity to test-ride. It feels light under saddle, accelerates with a quickness that is rare in the all-mountain category and it climbs like a goat. We have come to expect those attributes from Pivot's mid-travel trail bikes - that is what designer Chris Cocalis does best. What we did not anticipate was the leap that the Mach 6 Carbon has made beyond its predecessors in its descending and technical performance. Pivot's latest creation is already gaining respect among the sport's top riders for its outstanding versatility and it will no doubt be touted by many owners as the "one bike to rule them all." The Mach 6 Carbon could do well in pro-level enduro competition and with a competent rider on board, it can shred DH trails. But you don't have to go big or go home to enjoy the Mach 6. Assuredly, its strength and capabilities far exceed the genre, but it is genuinely enjoyable in the role of a trail bike - and if the climbs are technical enough, and you have the legs, the 155-millimeter Pivot may earn you a KOM or two. Speculation aside, we came across a Mach 6 Carbon owner during testing who summed up this entire review in two words: 'Eternal smile,' he said. 'That's all you need to write about this bike.' - RC "
